Unlock the Power of Your Browser: A Deep Dive into AudioPick, a Top Chrome Extension

Enhance your browsing experience with the powerhouse Chrome extension , AudioPick. AudioPick is a top-rated Chrome extension known for its utility and robustness. Designed to empower users with seamless control over their audio output, it has become a popular tool among Chrome users. The aggregate rating of 3.88 out of 5 is a testament to its functionality and user satisfaction.

An Overview of AudioPick Extension

AudioPick is a versatile Chrome extension that allows users to select a default audio output device for HTML5 audio or video streamed over HTTP(S). It further enhances user control, offering the option to overwrite the default device on a per-tab basis through a browser_action Popup.

Key Features of AudioPick

  • Since version 0.1.4, AudioPick can locate Media Elements in subframes, adding an extra layer of convenience for users.
  • With the 0.2.0 update, the extension no longer calls "getUserMedia()" to access the "sinkId" of Media Elements. Instead, it writes directly to "contentSettings['microphone']".
  • AudioPick searches for elements within the document tree, making it a powerful asset for those needing to manage their audio settings efficiently.

User Reviews Highlight Value and Point to Improvement Areas

A wide variety of user reviews reveal the strengths and areas for improvement of AudioPick. From the positive feedback, it's evident that users appreciate the utility and control that the extension provides. However, some users have highlighted issues regarding the need for manual microphone permission and compatibility with certain operating systems.

"It seems to work now," says a user named Trinity, while Norbert Elwart details how to navigate microphone permissions for successful use of the extension. Alexandre Rodrigues and Jaywoo Christner reported issues with the extension's functionality, while others like Mohammad Diab highlighted compatibility issues, especially with Windows 11.

These user reviews demonstrate that while AudioPick has earned a spot among top Chrome extensions , continuous updating and troubleshooting can further enhance its appeal to users.

Final Thoughts

AudioPick proves to be a valuable tool for many users, offering the ability to control audio outputs conveniently. However, it's clear that future updates addressing user feedback can take this popular Chrome extension to the next level. Whether you're a content creator, avid Chrome user, or someone who wants enhanced control over your audio settings, AudioPick is a Chrome extension worth considering.

A nice extension. It's working ok on max.com, where I prefer the external speakers, instead the default headphones. Some time ago I found another alike extension for Firefox, but during time the updates of Firefox made it unable to play anymore movies on max.com, ending with error code result.

This extension works well for most sites. However it causes Amazon Music to not load any of he graphics and messes up the website layout, a lot. NOTE: it still does redirect the music that is played but we cannot see the album art or anything because the page layout is completely messed up with this extension enabled. Wish we could exclude an extension for a particular site was a workaround option.

Works for most sites for me, but doesn't work for Pandora music. Edit- Having headphones as the default device and switching other tabs to speakers is a workaround for it. Wasn't aware it was only for the US, makes a lot of sense now. Thanks for replying! This extension is an absolute game changer.

Pretty solid. Does mostly everything that I need it to do in terms of routing audio through certain channels in RODE Unify. The only other thing that could be better is when I close the RODE Unify software that the audio would default back to System instead of having to be tweaked back to Default.

Works fantastic. I've got a side monitor with a built-in speaker and I use it for YouTube and Twitch tabs all the time so I don't have to change the audio output of the entire Chrome program. Only downside is that it doesn't seem to work with the audio compression on the Twitch extension BTTV or FFZ (I can't remember which one), but I don't blame the devs for that.

Exactly what I needed. Perfect for outbound calling.

Easy 5 stars!! Thank you so much for this extension! The ability to route specific websites to different audio devices is heaven for someone who has a specific device I want to use for JUST music!! Also to the other guy, this works for me in Edge.

Still Epic As Heck! Is great for using Virtual Audio Cables. The only thing missing and I mean the Only thing, at least for me. Let me reorder the Audio Output Device Tab List. That's the only thing I really want.

It works and it makes me glad, dear developer, please add support for wasapi exclusive or asio.

On msedge: Content Script not reponding. Try reload.

It works great. I needed some notifications to be enabled for me to hear via my headphones while listening to music in my Echoshow via bluetooth. Love this app already.

Osman E. “Otto”

Only works in Google Chrome and the author refuses to make any changes about it.

Andris Kardos

Works fine, just needed to reload tab after install.

Marcus J

We use this all the time and it works better now. Only thing that annoys me is that now I have to click twice, to select and apply. I would rather have it apply when clicked and if I want to make it permanently click twice. This would save a lot of clicking.

Belt Kosen

Finally fixed and works excellent. Big thanks to @XanSama on github

testing removing this extension that suspect to redirect site to ads site.

The key statement in the description is "Only works for HTML5 <video/> and <audio/> elements served via HTTP(S)." That makes it useless for most of us. Will not work with YouTube, Amazon Music, etc. They should rename the product "HTML5 Audio Picker" IMO so as to not waste people's time.

chmod 777

does not work at all

IT does work, with some tinkering! one has to do just as andras huszar downbelow said. next to the URL is a lock icon, press that. then press settings at the bottom. and in that setting menu that comes up go to microphone and change it to allow instead of ask. after that just change the outgoing on the extension! you might need to close page and open a new one if you had the window opened when changeing settings. or press a rolldown menu asking you to refresh the window.

doesnt work

IT WORKS! Just u need to go (ex: youtube and on the left of the url on the lock u need to go to settings and allow microphone on site ) so now my girlfriend can watch netflix (u need to do the same thing) on 1 monitor and on speakers and I can watch youtube on the main screen on headsets and everyone is happy

Not Sure

Is there any way to automatically change the audio output device when moving a tab from 1 monitor to a 2nd monitor. In other words, if I have YouTube open on monitor 1, and have the tab audio device set to monitor 1, but then I move the tab to monitor 2, is there any way to automatically update the tab audio device to monitor 2. The only software I found capable of doing this is "Actual Multiple Monitors" so I know it's possible, but "Actual Multiple Monitors" doesn't work with chrome :(

Trinity

It seems to work now
